Sensitive skin is a definite concern in the cosmetic industry but even in today’s more eco and animal friendly state of mind, the main way companies determined “sensitive skin” safe cosmetic is animal testing.
The European cosmetics trade association has stepped up to the plate first by developing and validating alternatives to animal testing.
Colipa Skin Tolerance Task Force will hold the second annual workshop on June 21 and 22 in Brussels, with the aim of bringing together experts to discuss the scientific progress that has been made in the area.
The project team is set to work on a better understanding of how chemicals react with the skin and activate the body’s immune system, which is the main cause of an allergy to skin protects. Thus, eliminating the need to test products on animals.
The main goal in this workshop is to create in vitro assays, which are designed to investigate mechanisms of action of a drug or a class of drug, that are capable of measuring different chemical and biological patterns that are associate with a person’s reaction to a product.
The workshop will also touch on various test cases where non-animal information was used by cosmetic companies to support product and decision making. These test cases will highlight successful sensitivity testing created without the use of any animals.

I didn’t realize that there was a workshop like this in exsistance, but I am glad they are on the second one!! It makes me sick thinking about animal testing; I am glad something is being done about it!

Yes, we were very happy to hear about the continued success in the anti-animal testing realm also. It is a huge issue that the cosmetic/beauty industry needs to change.
